AYAM physicians provide adolescent girls and young women with developmentally-sensitive health care focused on the body and mind.
AYAM physicians provide adolescent girls and young women with expert health care with a specialized focus on the unique needs of this age group. We strive to be a supportive resource and provide developmentally-sensitive care for our patients as they grow and mature in both body and mind. Natural changes during this stage of development can bring about a wide range of medical, developmental and pubertal, gynecologic, sexual and reproductive, nutritional, and emotional concerns.
Developmental/pubertal care is aimed at our pre-teen and early adolescent patients, who naturally experience an acceleration in height and weight and the onset of pubertal maturation. They often wonder what is normal and what to expect. We are experts in helping to support and care for our growing and developing patients as related questions and issues arise. Visit our Puberty and Growth-Related Concerns page to learn more.
Gynecologic care provided in our office most often pertains to menstrual problems (absent or infrequent periods, or periods which are too long, too heavy, too frequent and/or too painful), vaginal discharge or discomfort, breast development or lumps, routine annual gynecologic exams, and sexuality-related care. For more information, visit our Menstrual, Pubertal, and Other Gynecological Disorders page.
Sexuality-Related and Reproductive Health Care
Sexuality-related and reproductive health care includes discussion of relationships and intimacy, counseling around and prescribing contraception, including intrauterine devices (IUDs) and contraceptive implants, and screening for and treating gynecologic, including sexually transmitted, infections. We are also able to provide counseling and specialized health care for adolescents who are exploring their sexual and gender identity and preference.
Nutritional Health Care and Body Wellness
Nutritional health care and body wellness are primary goals at AYAM. The body undergoes changes during the pre-teen years, adolescence and young adulthood, and we are available to help support our patients’ nutritional health and fitness as well as to promote a positive body image for all of our patients. Visit the following web pages for more information: Nutrition Guidance & Education, Eating Disorders, and Overweight & Obesity.
Emotional Health Care
Emotional health care is integrated into all that we do at AYAM. We believe that sound mental health is the key to our patients’ overall wellbeing, and we strive to promote it through emotional counseling, mindfulness, pharmacotherapy when appropriate, and collaborative care with other mental health professionals.
