Dr. Karen Rosewater
Dr. Karen Rosewater is honored to be among the amazing physicians providing patient care at AYAM! Since joining the practice in 2000, Dr. Rosewater has been privileged to be the medical provider for many wonderful young people, assisting them in finding their path to improved health and wellbeing!
For several years, Dr. Rosewater has been awarded a place on the Best Doctor List by New York Magazine and has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Castle Connelly. Dr. Rosewater has been certified as an eating disorder specialist (CEDS) by the board of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedpNY) and currently serves on the executive board of the New York chapter. She is also a member of the advisory board for the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia (CSAB), a division of the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP).
Dr. Rosewater is a longstanding active member of the Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) as well as the New York chapter of SAHM and a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She has been asked to share her medical expertise on the medical care of eating disorders for CSAB, the White Institute, and iaedpNY, and has participated as a speaker at several workshops during international AED conferences.
A graduate of Yale University and the Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Rosewater completed her residency in pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital-Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship in adolescent medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Rosewater received a Master’s in Public Health from George Washington University and is the recipient of several prestigious honors, including membership in the AOA Medical Honor Society, and for outstanding work in research, teaching and community service. She lives in Manhattan with her husband and two pitbull rescues.
Dr. Doris Pastore
Dr. Doris Pastore joined AYAM in 2007. Dr. Pastore specializes in eating disorders and has helped over a thousand patients in the last fifteen years.
Dr. Doris Pastore loves connecting your health to your entire person, and addressing the big picture as well as its detailed view, in every visit with you. She is passionate about helping individuals and families facing Eating Disorders including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, as well as picky eating.
Dr. Pastore has expanded her clinical treatment expertise to include patients with hypermobility and EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) and its associated symptoms and conditions, such as POTS( fainting), head and neck pain, and chronic nausea. Dr. Pastore has completed a specialized training program certified by the EDS-ECHO project.
Dr. Pastore is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. She is a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Ehlers Danlos Society.
Dr. Pastore is the recipient of Castle Connolly Top Doctors and Super Doctors awards and has served on the national Executive Board of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine and regional health committees for the American Academy of Pediatrics. As a faculty member of the Icahn School of Medicine she trained over 20 fellows in Adolescent Medicine.
Dr. Pastore is a summa cum laude graduate of St. John’s University and the New York Medical College. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center – Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a fellowship in adolescent medicine at North Shore University Hospital – Cornell University Medical College. She lives in Manhattan where her favorite mode of transportation is her vespa.
Dr. Jessica Kerns
Dr. Jessica Kerns is proud to be the newest member of the AYAM physician team and to join in providing comprehensive evidence-based care for our patients. Dr. Kerns has a special interest in treating patients with a broad range of eating disorder types and severity, and also has expertise in sexual and reproductive health as well as general adolescent medicine.
She is an active member of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) and presented her research on eating disorder treatment at the SAHM 2022 annual meeting. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She has published review articles in the journal Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care on a number of topics.
Dr. Kerns received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, and completed her post- baccalaureate premedical training at Columbia University. She received her medical degree from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and completed residency in pediatrics and fellowship in adolescent medicine at Cohen Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) at Northwell Health. At the Eating Disorder Center at CCMC, Dr. Kerns cared for patients with complex eating disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Kerns is a native New Yorker and art enthusiast, working in museum education at several New York City museums prior to pursuing a career in medicine. She lives in Manhattan with her husband and 2 children.
