IUDs and Contraceptive Implants

Looking for extremely effective and hassle-free birth control?

What are IUDs and Contraceptive Implants?

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) and contraceptive implants are types of Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC). In contrast to shorter-acting contraceptive methods like the birth control pill and Nuvaring, IUDs and Implants are inserted by your doctor here at AYAM, eliminating the risk of accidentally using your birth control incorrectly. IUDs and implants are extremely safe and effective, and they are considered first-line contraceptive options for adolescents and young adults by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and the Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.* In addition, some IUDs are proven to lessen menstrual bleeding, cramping, and anemia – an added bonus!

What does AYAM offer that’s different?

Our specialist in adolescent gynecology and adolescent medicine is trained to insert IUDs and Contraceptive Implants in the office. AYAM’s adolescent and young-adult-friendly staff and office environment, as well as our specialist’s expertise with this patient population, make teen girls and young women feel comfortable and safe when undergoing this short medical procedure.

What can you expect?

If you are interested in an IUD or contraceptive implant, the first step is to schedule a visit with our specialist to discuss your Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) options. You will learn about the different choices and the benefits and risks of each, taking into consideration your personal needs and desires. Once you’ve decided together which contraceptive option is best for you, and if an IUD or contraceptive implant is what you choose, you will schedule the insertion visit. You will be given information about what to expect on the day of the procedure and afterwards, as well as plenty of time to ask questions. Contact us for more details!
